Teto Elsiddique (Painting Fellow)
Time travel is no longer possible

Born in England, growing up in Sudan and Canada, and now living in the United States, Elsiddique explores ideas of culture, identity, and symbolism within common objects. Through a process of layering and removing, he incorporates objects from diverse cultures–“model train tracks, a wedding dress, and various heirlooms“–to create atmospheric, abstracted paintings. Elsiddique graduated with a BFA from Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University and an MFA from Yale School of Art (2013, 2016). He has exhibited at Abrons Art Center, New York, NY; Green Gallery, New Haven, CT; and Montreal Museum of Fine Art, Quebec; among others. He currently lives in Richmond, VA, serving as adjunct faculty in the VCU Painting and Printmaking Department.

Ilana Harris-Babou (Sculpture and Extended Media Fellow)
Tiny House Hunters

Tiny House Hunters presents work inspired by home improvement shows, emphasizing concepts of utility, process, and functionality paralleled between industrial and art niches. Loosely glazed, hand-moldedobjects exist unfinished as Harris-Babou reveals traces of her process— reveling in its creation as  opposed to the finished product. The exhibition will included ceramic sculpture and video work.Harris-Babou earned her BA in Art from Yale University, and MFA in Visual Art from Columbia University School of the Arts (2013, 2016). She has mounted solo and group exhibitions at SculptureCenter, Long Island City, NY; The Jewish Museum, New York, NY; FJORD and Vox Populi Gallery, both Philadelphia, PA. She recently received a Van Lier Artist-in-Residence from the Museum of Arts and Design in New York, where she will be living and working.

The VCU Fountainhead Fellowship is a highly competitive award given to recent MFA graduates who display exemplary talent within their concentration. VCUarts extends one
fellowship per department: Sculpture + Extended Media, Painting + Printmaking, and Craft + Material Studies (two fellowships are given in crafts). The award is jointly sponsored by VCUarts and Fountainhead Development Services. Each recipient is given a studio space, furnished apartment, stipend, teaching opportunities, and an exhibition at Reynolds Gallery.
