Take a moment to read Amy Ritchie’s insightful review of two of our current exhibitions at Reynolds Gallery – Refracting Light and On the Hop: New Paintings. Refracting Light is a group exhibition exploring the use of glass in contemporary art and features such prominent artists as Tara Donovan, Sally Mann, and Maya Lin alongside acclaimed, locally based artists like Sarah Mizer. On the Hop: New Paintings showcases the recent work of Virginia-based painter, Paul Ryan. Ryan’s recent work explores the close and complex relationship between wilderness and institution. The paintings, which Ritchie describes as “a lively pulse on the wall”, feature imagery that references that relationship – profiles of tree tops and human body part amid consumer packaging.
