Notations
November 8 – December 21, 2019
Opening Reception
Friday, November 8
7 – 9 pm

Notations is Ray Kass’s eighth solo exhibition with Reynolds Gallery, and continues his decades long exploration of nature – the landscape, the garden – as muse. His newest body of work conveys a spiritual and contemporary interpretation of nature, inspired by the artist’s observations of his surroundings in the Appalachian region of Virginia and throughout his travels.

The exhibition presents several large paintings which employ layered washes of watercolor, oil emulsion, and dry pigment. Among these is one of Kass’s largest work to date: a twenty panel, mural sized work which spans a 233-inch stretch of wall. The paintings’ rag paper surfaces, coated with a layer shaved beeswax, lend a soft appearance echoing the earthy elements found within each composition.

Notations opens with a public reception from 7 to 9 pm on November 8 and remains on view through December 21, 2019.
