“Grass Moon” as an exhibition embodies April’s full moon, signifying the reemergence of life and the brink of a new season. Innis uses visible texture and a palette that mirrors the gentle yet undeniable energy of spring’s arrival. She continues her exploration of unidentified organic forms through dynamic strokes and thick, tactile layers of oil stick. Each piece in the show evokes a sense of movement—of natural forces stirring, stretching, and reclaiming their vibrancy after months of dormancy.

My ‘Grass Moon’ series tells the story of the rebirth of Spring, occurring in motion under April’s full moon. Shining under the full moon of April, plant life surges as a new season begins — nature awakens from its winter slumber. Ice thaws, revealing the return of navigable streams, early flowers bloom, and the grass of Spring sprouts. Night is filled with the fragrance of Moonflower’s nocturnal blooms as the Grass Pink Orchid’s petals fall and the yellow butterfly grows wings. A new season has started. Using textured oil stick strokes, charcoal markings, and layered dripping forms, I explore the boundaries of abstraction and figuration through representations of the natural world. ‘Grass Moon’ expands on the repeated theme of childhood nostalgia in my work, seeking inspiration from my love for the en plein air paintings of the Impressionists developed at an early age, to the memory of my mother’s fresh cut flowers. I try to capture the romanticism of nature in my work, like petals falling from a flower, or new plant life bursting from the ground.
